When should a man have his fertility checked?
If there is no pregnancy after 12 months of regular intercourse without contraception, or 6 months if the partner is 35 or older. Earlier if there is a history of mumps, undescended testicles, testicular surgery or steroid use.
What is a semen analysis?
A test of a semen sample to assess sperm count, movement and shape. It is the basic male fertility test. Abstain from ejaculation for 2–7 days beforehand.
Do steroids for fitness affect fertility?
Yes. Testosterone and anabolic steroids taken from outside suppress the body's own sperm production. Production usually recovers gradually after stopping under a doctor's supervision.
